Beyond the Pale

Beyond the Pale

For nearly 20 years Toronto’s Beyond the Pale has been making its distinctive brand of boundary-busting Eurofolk fusion. Inspired by Klezmer and Balkan styles but informed by everything from jazz and classical music to bluegrass and reggae, Beyond the Pale’s music traverses a vast and exotic musical landscape, bound by no particular idiom but shaped by many. Their exuberant live performances range seamlessly from raucous dance rhythms to intricate chamber-folk stylings. They are three-time Canadian Folk Music Award winners, and have toured extensively across North America, Europe, Australia and Brazil. The group will release their long-awaited fourth CD on Borealis Records in summer 2017. This stunning collection of genre-bending compositions and inventive arrangements of traditional material showcases the virtuosic musicianship and meticulous dynamics that make BTP one of Canada’s most innovative acoustic ensembles. Beyond the Pale features Bret Higgins (bass), Aleksandar Gajic (violin), Milos Popovic (accordion), Eric Stein (mandolin), and Martin van de Ven (clarinets).
